Paigeβs Pick: Georgetown Loop Railroad
Hi friends! I hope you are all having a lovely Sunday. π Yesterday I went on a little Colorado mountain adventure with my boyfriend and we rode on the Georgetown Loop Railroad! Growing up in Colorado, I always wanted to do this but had just never gotten around to it until yesterday.
Georgetown is a quaint little mountain town located about 45 mins outside of Denver. Founded in 1859, it was a large silver mining hub for many years. The Georgetown Loop Railroad was built about 25 years later and is still running to this day! In recent times it has become a tourist train, running to and from Georgetown and nearby town, Silver Plume.
The train now hosts themed excursions, like the Oktoberfest one that we took yesterday. I have also seen Lighted Forest, Wine & Cheese, Haunted Mine and Fall Color themed trains on their website as well. We purchased our tickets for $37.95 a piece, which included Parlor seats, a bratwurst, snacks, and a beer tasting. We considered getting the Coach tickets for $10 cheaper, however those seats were in an open air train car. With the chilly 40 degree weather and freezing wind, Iβm happy that we opted for the more expensive, enclosed seats!
Overall, we had a phenomenal experience. The food and drinks were good, we learned about the history of the train, and the views were spectacular. I will definitely be returning! π
After our ride, we decided to drive through Georgetown and Silver Plume and explore for a little while before heading back to Denver.
As a Colorado native, I would highly recommend taking day trips to any Colorado mountain towns, however this experience quickly became one of my top picks! π
