San Antonio, Texas
Hi everyone! I havenβt posted in a while but Iβm back! π Last month, I took a long weekend trip to San Antonio with my mom and had the best time. It was my first time visiting, and I absolutely loved it! It was such a unique city - it felt a bit like Mexico, Disneyland and Las Vegas all rolled up into one place.
Here are some of my top recommendations!
Where to stay:
I would recommend staying somewhere on the river walk. There are dozens of great hotels that line the river, and most are very affordable!
Things to see/do:
River Walk Area: The San Antonio River Walk was by far my favorite attraction! It stretches for 15 miles, and connects many parts of the city. It is loaded with wonderful restaurants, shops, and live music, and is the perfect place to take a daily stroll and people watch! Just watch your step, there are no railings and according to our river boat tour guide, at least 5 people fall into the river each night (usually after throwing back a few margaritas)!
Historic Market Square: This large marketplace is full of unique and festive shops as well as bars and restaurants. I bought not one but two hats here - the shopping was phenomenal!
River Boat Cruise: We took an hour long river boat cruise through GO RIO and loved it. We learned more about the history of San Antonio, the river itself and enjoyed the peaceful ride in the sunshine. π
The Alamo: This is a must do when you are visiting San Antonio! The history is fascinating, and it is only a short walk from the river walk area! We booked our tickets ahead of time, which I would highly recommend, as they can sell out. If time allows, it may be better to book a tour in the morning. San Antonio gets quite hot by the afternoon!
Restaurants/bars:
Boudroβs on the Riverwalk: This was my favorite meal of the trip! Boudroβs is (as you may guess) quite literally on the river walk, and is one of the best locations for sipping a cocktail, people watching and eating some table side guac. I would highly recommend their prickly pear margarita - itβs to die for!
Iron Cactus: This was another great restaurant right on the river walk. We got the queso and shrimp enchiladas to split and they were both delicious!
Pearl Brewery: This large historic brewing complex now houses several restaurants, bars and shops, and is located right next to the beautiful Hotel Emma. We walked along the river from downtown San Antonio and made it to the Pearl Brewery area in about 25 minutes. This is a great place for drinks, dining and just relaxing!
Travel Tip: Restaurants fill up quick, so be sure to make reservations if there is somewhere you want to go! Otherwise, most restaurants only take walk up customers (and the waits can be quite long!)
