Nice, France
Hi everyone! It’s now been over 3 months since we returned from our honeymoon and I’m finally just getting around to writing about it! We chose to go to the South or France and based our trip around attending the Monaco Grand Prix! Be sure to check out my other blog post dedicated to that portion of our trip here. 😊 In this post, I’ve detailed our flights, accommodations and everything else that we did during our time in the French Riviera!
Flight:
We originally booked a RT Lufthansa economy class flight with layovers in Germany both ways. With taxes, fees and seat selections, our flights were roughly $1K per ticket. We had bad colds leading up to our trip, and knew we wouldn’t be able to sleep or relax in our original seats, so we decided to keep an eye on how much it would be to upgrade to Business Class. The day before our flight, it was $1K to upgrade, but the day of, it went down to $500, so we jumped on it! Let me tell you, it was the best decision we’ve ever made! It was so luxurious in every way. Our seats were able to extend and lay completely flat, we had a goodie bag containing L'occitane toiletries, and the food and drinks were absolutely delicious. I would HIGHLY recommend doing the Lufthansa Business Class if you have a chance!
Accommodations:
We stayed in a wonderful little Airbnb in Nice! It was about a 5 minute walk from the boardwalk and beach, and 10 minutes to Old Town!
Things to do/see:
Promenade des Anglais: This beautiful boardwalk stretches the entire length of Nice, and strolling along it was my one of my favorite things to do each day. On either side you have stunning ocean views, beach clubs, hotels, shops and restaurants, and the people watching is the best part!
Nice’s Old Town & Flower Market: This part of the city was so fun. We ate at several restaurants in this area during our trip, and shopped around at the flower market, which lines one of the main streets in Old Town. The flower market is open Tuesday through Sunday from 9am-2pm and I would highly recommend checking it out!
Castle Hill: This was my absolute favorite part of Nice! Castle Hill is located just past the Old Town area of Nice, and is accessible by stairs or an elevator. At the top of your climb, you are rewarded with the most breathtaking view of Nice you will ever see! You can also explore the park, take in views of the Nice Port, eat at the cafe, and take photos of the beautiful waterfall! Castle Hill is a must see when you are in Nice.
Boat day: After doing a boat day in Italy, this was one of our must dos for our trip to France! We honestly couldn’t find similar companies to the one that we used in Italy, so we had to get creative. We looked through a website called SamBoat which is basically AirBnb but for boats! We were able to scroll through, find something in our budget and then made sure that we would have a skipper for the day as well. The day overall was great, but we preferred our boat day in Italy a bit more (mainly because the weather was a bit cloudy and the water wasn’t quite warm enough in the end of May). However, that didn’t stop us from jumping in and swimming! We met our skipper in Antibes, and he took us up the coast, to Saint-Jean-Cap-Ferrat, which was stunning! We hopped out near Villefranche for a quick dip in the ocean and again bear Paloma Beach, where we had lunch.
Eze / Le Jardin Exotique: Eze was one of the most beautiful places I have ever been. This medieval hilltop village has incredible views of the Mediterranean and the surrounding French towns and beaches. We spent about 2 hours walking around the village and exploring the Jardin Exotique. Tickets to the garden are about 7€ and it is absolutely worth it. We captured some of the most beautiful photos of our entire trip in these gardens. Trust me, this is a MUST DO for your trip to the South of France!
Villefranche Sur Mer: We spent a morning strolling around this quaint, colorful fishing village, and loved it. Be sure to make your way over to the Citadelle and it’s gardens before grabbing lunch and checking out the beautiful beaches and crystal clear water of Villefranche!
Monaco Grand Prix: Our entire trip revolved around the Grand Prix, which my husband was DJing at! Read through my blog post about the Monaco Grand Prix to learn more about what we did!
Restaurants/Bars:
Le Plongeoir: This place is a must see when in Nice. It is a beautiful little restaurant perched on a rock formation on the coast, and the views are beautiful. The food was good - a little pricey, but worth it for the fun atmosphere.
Le Quebec: This was the best pizza we had on our trip! It was located in Old Town and had great people watching and great service!
Anjuna Beach Club: This beach club was one of my absolute favorite spots that we went to on our trip. We started our day in Eze, and hiked from there down the Nietzsche path to Anjuna Beach Club. It was located on the most beautiful stretch of beach with crystal blue water. I would highly recommend stopping here for food and a cocktail if you have a chance!
Paloma Beach: This was another great beach club that we visited during our trip! If any of you have seen Emily in Paris, Paloma Beach is the real “Laurent G’s” beach club. We ate lunch here during our boat day, and we absolutely loved it. We ordered the lobster pasta, seafood tartare and some aperol spritz’s and they were all delicious!
Le Negresco bar: If you are staying in Nice, you have to visit the Negresco hotel. It is situated on the Promenade des Anglais and has several wonderful restaurants, including the outside bar. We relaxed, sipped our yummy champagne cocktails, and soaked in the beautiful ocean view.
La Favola: We finally decided to eat here on our last night, after walking by several times prior and seeing a constant line outside. I am so glad that we decided to give it a try! We luckily got there before a line formed, and were sat right away. The pasta and pizza were amazing, and the service was great!
Here are some photos from our trip!
