Mallorca
Last month, my husband and I had the pleasure of spending 3 wonderful days in Mallorca, Spain. It was absolutely beautiful, the food was incredible, and the people were lovely! Take a look at everything we did during our time in Mallorca below!
Accommodations:
Meliá Palma Bay: We stayed in Palma, just outside of the city center at the Meliá Palma Bay. It was very nice, clean, quiet and the perfect base for our trip. It also sits on a bus line that will take you directly in and out of Palma! We took the bus into town and back several times during our trip - it’s very easy and only costs about €2 per person!
Things to Do & See:
Sóller Train & Tram: One of the most incredible and unique experiences we had in Mallorca was taking the hundred year old train from Palma to Sóller. It passes through mountains, towns, tunnels and gives you stunning views the entire way! Once in Soller, there is also a hundred year old tram that you can then take from the town of Soller to Port de Soller. This port and beach area is absolutely BEAUTIFUL. Once you’ve soaked in some of the sun on the tram, go back up to the main town and try a Soller Bomb! This delicious treat pairs freshly squeezed Soller orange juice with vanilla yogurt ice cream, and yogurt foam, creating a perfectly creamy orange treat! Be sure to also spend a bit of time wandering through the quaint streets of Soller before returning to Palma on the train. :) You may also want to purchase tickets ahead of time, as the train and tram can get quite busy.
Cala Llombards: This was the most beautiful beach that we went to on our trip. The water was crystal clear and the prettiest blue I’ve ever seen! We spent several hours here relaxing, swimming and even doing a bit of cliff jumping!
Cala D’or & Cala Petita: The resort region of Cala D’or is a great place to wander and grab a bite to eat before heading for a swim at the beautiful Cala Petita! We spent a few hours lounging and swimming at this beach as well, and absolutely loved it. The water was perfectly blue and warm. Perfection!
Playa de Alcudia: This large beach was the perfect place to spend one of our mornings! Alcúdia feels similar to a beach in Mexico or the Caribbean, with its expansive white sand beach and mild waves. There are many shops and restaurants nearby, and hundreds of beach chairs and umbrellas for rent, making it the perfect place to spend a day.
Catedral-Basílica de Santa María de Mallorca: This stunning Gothic cathedral was beautiful at any time of day, but especially at night when it was completely illuminated. Be sure to stroll through its garden, L'Hort del Rei at night as well - it all feels very enchanting.
Shopping: As we all know, Spain has the absolute best shopping! Be sure to set aside a bit of time to restock your wardrobe. :)
Food & Drink:
We tried tapas at 4 different places, and loved them all. Each restaurant was in the Palma city center. We tried Moltabarra, Bar España, Restaurante Tast Unión and Bar Dia. I would recommend getting a tinto de verano to accompany your meal as well - it’s perfectly refreshing for the hot Mallorcan nights.
Mallorca Travel Tips:
Rent a car! Mallorca is pretty big, so if you want to check out its various beaches and towns, renting a car is the way to go! Just remember to get your international drivers license beforehand!
Buy a couple of small cheap umbrellas and towels at a nearby store to set up at the beach. We ended up using these for each of our beach days, and although we had to leave the umbrellas, we thankfully had enough room to take the towels home with us!
Bring hats, sunscreen, water, and snacks along with you on beach days. It can get VERY hot in Mallorca and you don’t want to end up dehydrated!
