A First Timer’s Guide to Tomorrowland
My husband and I recently had the experience of a lifetime attending Tomorrowland music festival in Belgium. It had been on both of our bucket lists for a very long time, and when we discovered that it overlapped with our Olympics trip that we already had planned, we decided to go for it!
How to get tickets:
Because Tomorrowland is one of the top musical festivals in the world, the tickets are very sought after and therefore extremely hard to get your hands on. When we each failed to get tickets in the presale AND the worldwide sale, we both signed up for the waiting list sale. Luckily, we were able to get two tickets through the waiting list sale, but it was still pretty difficult. Although we didn’t participate in a Global Journey package, I’ve also heard that purchasing one of those packages gives you a much better chance of getting tickets as well!
Accommodations:
We decided to stay in Brussels at Hotel Hubert, which was perfect for our one day at the festival. By shuttle, it was about a thirty minute drive to the festival site from the pickup location near the hotel! The hotel was also in a great central location in Brussels, near Grand Place and many restaurants and shops.
Getting to the Festival:
We were able to purchase round trip city shuttles from Brussels to the festival site in the Tomorrowland Add On Sale. (This sale is where you can buy things like shuttles, lockers, in person dining experiences, etc.) The shuttles were easy to navigate and were a great way to get from Brussels to Tomorrowland and back. If you are staying in Brussels or Antwerp, I would highly recommend getting the city shuttle to and from the festival!
Food & Drink:
All of the food that we tried at Tomorrowland was fantastic! We tried the flame grilled burgers, Belgian fries, Chicken gyro, Roasted chicken and ribs and our favorite thing that we tried by far was the Belgian waffle! They melt in your mouth and are perfectly sweet - we had three throughout the day and I honestly wish we would have gotten more.
Things to Do & See:
EVERYTHING! :) Get to the festival right after it opens to give yourself ample time to see and do everything. We found it helpful to use the Tomorrowland app, which had an interactive map and helped us navigate the festival grounds. Try to see all of the stages if you can, wander through the stores, eat lots of the food, people watch and just enjoy the day! Be sure to get a picture with the main stage during the day and at night - it fills up quickly as the headliners start to go on, so you’ll be happy you snapped some photos when it’s not quite as busy!
What to Bring:
Be sure to bring your festival bracelets and have your ticket QR code handy! You may also want to bring some form of ID just in case you are picking up your tickets there.
Our weather was sunny but overcast, so we luckily didn’t get too hot or cold throughout the day. However, Boom is known to have rain spells, so you may want to pack some foldable rain ponchos just in case. We also packed hoodies, sunscreen, ibuprofen, a portable charging bank, hats, comfortable shoes and earplugs. I would also recommend packing LMNT packs or some sort of electrolyte drink mix so that you don’t get dehydrated!
Tips & Recommendations:
Be sure to load pearls onto your bracelet before you arrive. For reference, my husband and I each added $100 to our bracelets which ended up being roughly 56 pearls. As we really only used our pearls to purchase food, we only used up about half of our pearls, and the remaining balance was refunded to our payment cards following the conclusion of the festival.
Tomorrowland offers locker rentals which you can purchase in the Add On Sale. We purchased one and used it to store our rain ponchos, hoodies, charging bank and other items, so that we could walk around the festival with minimal belongings. I would especially recommend purchasing one of these lockers for the day if you are planning on buying any Tomorrowland merchandise! Plus, the lockers are quite cheap to rent - only about €13 per day.
By the end of the day, quite a bit of the Tomorrowland merchandise was sold out. If you are hoping to buy something specific, I would recommend either ordering the item online or going to the store first thing when you arrive that day.
Dress up! Wear something that you normally wouldn’t wear, use some face jewels…just have fun with it. :) However, you’ll be doing LOTS of walking, so just be sure to wear shoes that are comfortable, or bring a change of shoes to keep in a locker!
