Chicago, Illinois
Chicago is one of my favorite U.S. cities - between it’s great food, rich history and cultural scene, I always have a blast each time I visit. Below are a few recommendations to make the most of your next Chicago trip!
Accommodations:
W Lakeshore: This stunning hotel is perfectly located in the heart of everything! When we arrived, we asked the front desk about a lake-view room, and they were more than happy to accommodate us with an amazing room overlooking both the lake and Navy Pier. Plus, it's just a short walk to iconic attractions like Cloud Gate, The Art Institute, and plenty of fantastic shops and restaurants!
Things to do/see:
Cloud Gate (The Bean): This is probably the most famous Chicago landmark! It’s located in Millennium Park and is the perfect place to take one of the famous mirrored photos that you’ve likely seen.
The Art Institute: This is an absolute MUST on your trip to Chicago. It has some of the most notable pieces of artwork in the world! I was lucky enough to see the temporary Andy Warhol exhibition here a few years ago, which was incredible.
DuSable Bridge: This is the perfect place for a photo op! It’s right in the middle of several great shops and restaurants and offers a great view of the Chicago River and surrounding buildings.
Food/Drinks:
Mr. Beef: This no frills sandwich shop is not only the inspiration for the tv show “The Bear”, but also a filming location for the show! I would recommend trying their classic Italian beef sandwich with sweet and spicy peppers.
Three Dots and a Dash: This tiki bar has a great atmosphere and even better cocktails - the Painkiller is to die for!
Billy Goat Tavern: The Billy Goat Tavern is a Chicago icon. It’s not only famous for it’s “Cheezborger Cheezborger Cheezborger” SNL skit, but also it’s century long curse. The "Billy Goat Tavern Curse" is a superstition tied to the 1945 World Series, when tavern owner Billy Sianis was asked to leave Wrigley Field with his pet goat, causing him to famously declare that the Cubs would never win the World Series again. Since then, fans have believed that the curse has haunted the Cubs, who endured a 108-year championship drought before finally winning the World Series in 2016.
Wildberry Pancakes and Cafe: This cozy diner is the perfect breakfast spot! The service was great and the food was delicious. I would recommend trying their cinnamon roll pancakes and the espanola omelette!
Portillo’s Hot Dogs: The absolute best Chicago style hot dogs can be found at Portillo’s. Be sure to visit their Ontario Street location and try their classic Chicago dog and famous chocolate cake!
Pequod’s & Lou Malnati’s Pizzeria: These are two of the best Chicago deep dish pizza joints in the city! Be sure to try the Deep Dish Malnati Chicago Classic at Lou Malnati’s, and the pan pizza at Pequod’s with whatever toppings you’d like. :) You haven’t lived until you’ve tried Chicago deep dish pizza!
