Palisade, Colorado
Hey guys! I just returned from my family reunion in Palisade and it was an absolute blast. π My uncle lives up there where he owns a peach orchard - it was the perfect gathering place for our reunion! Since Palisade isnβt very well known by most people visiting Colorado, I wanted to dedicate a post to all of the fun things that you can do there! Palisade is about 4 hours west of Denver - pretty close to the Utah border. Itβs known for its delicious peaches, but thereβs tons of other things to do like wine tasting, hiking and sight seeing!
Accommodations:
We stayed in a small hotel outside of Palisade where the rest of my family was also staying. It was great for the couple of nights we were there, however if I go back sometime soon I would most likely stay at the Wine Country Inn! Itβs one of the nicest hotels in the area and itβs surrounded by beautiful grape orchards.
Food/Drinks:
Because we ate most of our meals at my Uncleβs house, we didnβt get a chance to try any of the Palisade restaurants. However, we did do wine tasting at a few different wineries in town. My favorite was at Two Rivers Winery, where the wine tasting is free and all of them were delicious! We also did a tasting at Colterris Winery - it was $5 per person for a 3 wine tasting. The most unique and delicious wine Iβve ever had (Coral: their very own white Cabernet Sauvignon) was tasted here! It was so good, both my mom and I bought bottles to take home with us!
Things to do/see:
Palisade is known for its peaches. The entire town is the perfect climate/elevation to support growth for all kinds of fruits! Right now, cherries, apricots and only some peaches are in season, but theyβre all worth trying! There are also various pie shops spread throughout Palisade that showcase these delicious, fresh fruits. π
We also took a drive one morning up to Colorado National Monument! Itβs just about 20 minutes west of Palisade, and itβs definitely worth the trip. Although I have never been to the Grand Canyon, I would imagine Colorado National Monument is just a smaller version of it! The views were breathtaking and there were many great photo opportunities!
The most beautiful part of Palisade is its view of Mt. Garfield. It juts up from the Book Cliffs and it makes a beautiful centerpiece for photos! It takes a little under 4 hours to hike but the views are breathtaking!
Another fun activity on your trip to Palisade is to check out the Enstrom factory! Enstrom is originally made and manufactured in Grand Junction Colorado which is only a few minutes away from Palisade. π The facility is more of a sweets shop, but you can see how they make the candy through the connecting window to the factory! This is a great activity for people and kids of all ages.
Now that you all know a little bit about Palisade, be sure to make a stop there on your trip to Colorado! π Youβll be sure to love itβs laid back, small town feel...and of course itβs delicious fruit and wine!
