Florence, Italy
After we finished the first day of our trip in Venice, we took the train to Florence! We loved Florence - it felt like a little fairytale land! It was much smaller than the other Italian cities we visited and it was pretty easy to navigate. We stayed for two nights and loved every bit of it.
Accommodations:
We stayed in a cute little Airbnb right in the middle of the city and it was perfect for our time in Florence! It was walking distance to all of the main sites and it had working air conditioning which was a must for a trip to Italy in the middle of August!
Food/Drink:
Trattoria Za Za - This was the BEST restaurant that we ate at in Florence - so good that we ate there both nights of our stay! My absolute favorite thing that we ordered both nights was the tortellini with ham and truffles in cream sauce. We also tried the crab gnocchi and the Florentine steak which were delicious as well!
Caffe Concerto Paszkowski - This lovely cafe was the perfect spot for a breakfast and a cappuccino. It overlooks Piazza della Republica and is a great place for people watching!
Things to do/see:
Piazzale Michelangelo - This is a must see!! It is a square on the edge of the city that offers the most BEAUTIFUL view of Florence! Trust me, youβll want to make a stop here!
Cathedral of Santa Maria del Fiore - This breathtaking cathedral is located right in the middle of the city and is also the home of Brunelleschiβs famous dome! This is also a must see. π
Galleria dellβAccademia - No trip to Florence is complete without visiting Michelangeloβs famous David statue! There is also a replica of the statue at Palazzo della Signoria, where it originally used to stand until it was moved indoors to the Galleria dellβAccademia in 1873.
Tuscany day trip - Donβt miss out on the opportunity to go wine tasting in Tuscany! We took a half day tour to a little family owned vineyard in Chianti, about 30 minutes outside of Florence. The landscape was absolutely stunning and it was fun to learn about the history of the vineyard and their wine making process!
