Los Angeles, California
Hi friends! I just got back from our crazy last minute LA trip and thought I would write a post about everything we did while we were there. We were originally planning on traveling to Miami last weekend, but after hearing about Hurricane Matthew, we were forced to cancel our plans and rebook an entirely new trip the day before we left. We were a little hesitant at first, but it ended up working out splendidly. π
For our trip, we flew with United and stayed at a great little Airbnb right in between Venice Beach and Santa Monica in Southern California. Here's a rundown of what we did!
Day 1:
We arrived in LA at around noon on Thursday, got a Lyft to our Airbnb and immediately set out on foot to explore Santa Monica. We ventured over to the 3rd Street Promenade, where we shopped, ate lunch at Sugarfish(best sushi I've ever had!), and then got froyo at Pinkberry. After this, we walked back to our place and got ready to leave for Downtown LA that night. That evening, we took a Lyft to Bottega Louie in DTLA and ate an amazing margarita pizza, then walked around for a little while to some different bars. On the way home, we stopped by a club called Bungalow in Santa Monica. This was my favorite bar/club I have ever been to: it is set up like a house with a few different bars scattered throughout to give it a house party vibe. We had an absolute blast there. I would highly recommend checking it out!
Day 2:
Disneyland!!! This was my 5th time going to Disneyland, but my first time ever going during the holiday season! The entire park was decorated for Halloween: rides were Halloween themed, characters were dressed in costumes, and every bakery and restaurant had pumpkin flavored treats! We arrived at around noon and stayed until the park closed at 7. We were able to get in every ride we wanted to go on, with the help of a couple Fast Passes throughout the day. Our favorite ride was the Haunted Mansion, which was "Nightmare Before Christmas" themed for Halloween! If you go to Disneyland, try to go on a week day - there are not nearly as many people as there are during the weekends which makes it easier to go on all of the rides!
Day 3:
We woke up, walked down to Main Street in Santa Monica to grab some coffee, and then walked over to Venice Beach from there. Once we got to Venice, we roamed around on the boardwalk, looked at all of the street merchant's knick knacks, (possibly saw Sean Penn π³) and then took an Uber from the boardwalk to the closest In-N-Out! This is a must do on any California trip, be sure to do this if you visit! From there we took another Uber to Melrose Ave and then The Grove to do a little bit more shopping. By this point, we were pretty tired so we went back home to regroup before our night out. After relaxing for a while, we walked down to Enterprise Fish Co. on Santa Monica's Main Street and got a delicious seafood dinner, before heading to West Hollywood. We saw that Miguel was performing at 1OAK that night, so we got on a guest list and got ready to leave! We had so much fun at 1OAK, we didn't end up going to any other bars or clubs that night. Then it was back home to sleep π΄
Day 4:
Our last day! π We woke up and walked down to Santa Monica once again, ate lunch at Bubba Gump's on the pier, and then walked around on the beach for a while. After this we made our way back up to the 3rd Street Promenade where we ate at Sugarfish (again). π Good sushi is hard to come by in Colorado, so we had to take advantage of the delicious fresh fish at Sugarfish! Once we finished eating, we left and headed off for LAX!
It was a short trip, but a very good one. ππ΄
One of the top tips we learned was to utilize Uber Pool and Lyft Line wherever we went. What would normally be a $20 ride, only costs $10 with either of these services. You split the fare with whoever else requests the ride, so it ends up costing you half the price! Unless you are in a hurry to get somewhere quickly, this is a very cheap and efficient way to get around town! π
