Positano, Italy
Positano was our last stop on our magical Italy trip! We purposely made this the longest part of our stay because seeing the Amalfi Coast had always been on both of our bucket lists and we wanted plenty of time to see it!
We took the train from Rome to Salerno, and then a ferry from Salerno to Positano. π We stayed for three days and in that time did a day trip to Capri and a day boating around the Amalfi Coast!
Accommodations:
We stayed at a BEAUTIFUL Airbnb right in the center of Positano. We made this our big splurge of the trip and it was totally worth every penny! The balcony overlooked all of Positano and our host, Daniella was so helpful and gave us tons of local tips!
Food/Drink:
Chez Black - This was our first meal in Positano and to be honest, the food and drinks were good but not great. However, the location is phenomenal. Itβs a great place to sit, people watch and enjoy the ambiance of Positano. π
Il Capitano - This was our favorite restaurant that we ate at! The food was delicious, the views were absolutely breathtaking and the service was warm and welcoming. It is set up on one of the high cliffs in Positano so it makes for an incredibly beautiful, romantic place for a bite to eat. This would be my top recommendation for a dinner in Positano!
La Sponda - If youβve seen pictures overlooking the Positano cliffs, thereβs a good chance it was taken from La Sponda or Le Sirenuse, the hotel in which it is located in. It is a Michelin star restaurant, and you can choose from a prefix tasting menu or a normal menu. We opted for the normal menu and ordered a few entrees and a glass of wine each. The food was good, and the ambiance was wonderful. They also had a mandolin and guitar duo wandering around serenading each table with beautiful music, which was a very special touch!
Ristorante al Palazzo - This was another Michelin star restaurant that we ate at on our very last night in Positano. Similar to the other restaurants Iβve mentioned, the ambiance, food and service were all wonderful here as well!
TRAVEL TIP: Try a lemon granita! They are sold all over the Amalfi Coast and they are absolutely delicious. Sweet lemon juice mixed with crushed ice makes for the perfect little treat and an even better way to cool down in the hot summer heat!
Things to do/see:
Nana Positano - When in Positano, you must buy a pair of handmade custom sandals! We were recommended Nana by our Airbnb host, and we were not disappointed. I picked out and customized a pair of sandals from scratch and watched him make them right there in front of me! I walked out with a beautiful pair of custom sandals for only 55β¬. π
Stroll Viale Pasitea - Positano is the perfect place for strolling around, shopping, eating and just enjoying your surroundings. Viale Pasitea is the street that runs through the town and is populated by tons of great shops and restaurants. If you keep following it up the hill, youβll also eventually run into my favorite Positano restaurant, El Capitano! (This is also where Nana is located! π)
Capri Day Trip - We took the ferry early in the morning to Capri and spend about half the day there! It was the most beautiful place Iβve ever been in my life. The high cliffs, crystal clear blue water and tropical flowers make it SO unbelievably gorgeous, youβll never want to leave! We strolled around the island, got a caprese salad (because why wouldnβt you?!) and took in all of the magnificent views of the Faraglioni! I also bought a pretty little hand woven bag from a cute shop named La Bambolina. βΊοΈ
TRAVEL TIP: For the best vantage point and photo opportunity, go to the Gardens of Augustus! If I can remember correctly, the admission fee was only 1β¬ and you can get the most beautiful photos here!
Amalfi Marine Boat Tour - This was our favorite day of our entire Italy trip! We spent 500β¬ for a private boat, with a skipper for an entire day! It seems like a lot of money, but it was a total once in a lifetime experience and worth every single penny. We started in Positano and went all the way down to a beach past the town of Maiori, making tons of stops along the way! We did so many fun things on this boat trip that I decided it needed itβs own blog post! Check my Amalfi Coast by Boat post for more information on what we did and why I would highly recommend it! π
Welp, there you have it! That was our trip to Italy. It was by far my favorite country that Iβve ever been to and would recommend it to anyone! Below Iβve included some of the pictures from our time in Positano and Capri! β€οΈ
