Austin, Texas
Hey y’all! We just got back from a friend’s wedding down in Austin and we had such a great time. This was my first time visiting Texas so I wasn’t quite sure what to expect but I loved it! Here’s a rundown of what we did, ate and saw on our trip!
Accommodations:
We stayed in a great little Airbnb in East Austin. It was bright, clean, stylish and the perfect place for a weekend stay. It was also only about a 5 minute drive to downtown Austin!
Food/Drinks:
Franklin Barbecue - This is the place that you have to eat at in Austin! Do your research before you go and figure out the best times to get there because there is ALWAYS a line. We went on Thursday at about noon and stood in line for two hours. But! It was the best bbq we’ve ever had! Franklin’s opens at 11am and usually runs out of food by about 2-3pm. So getting there early will guarantee you the best chance of getting in and getting your first choice of food!
Rockstar Bagels - This great little bagel place was right up the street from our Airbnb in East Austin. It was quick, cheap and delicious!
Baby Acapulco - This is a great place to grab some yummy Tex Mex and a margarita! The prices were good and the food and drinks were great. Order their famous Purple Rita to drink - there’s a limit of only two per person! 🙈
Rainey Street - Rainey Street is THE place to go out in Austin. It’s a long street of historic bungalow style homes turned into bars and restaurants! We went to Unbarlievable and Augustine and both were an absolute blast. 😊
Things to do/see:
Bats on Congress Bridge - This was one of the coolest and most unique things I’ve ever done! Every evening at Sunset, onlookers gather on Congress Bridge to watch 1.5 million Mexican free-tailed bats fly out from under the bridge! We got there right before sunset and waited for about 20 minutes for the bats to begin flying out. Once they did, it was truly a sight to see!
South Congress (SoCo) - This cute area is filled with great restaurants, shops and things to do! It’s just a short walk outside of downtown Austin. 😊
Lake Travis - We were by Lake Travis a few times during our stay, mostly for wedding festivities! It is absolutely stunning - I would love to return to Austin and spend some more time at Lake Travis!
